PHOTO EDITING AND POSTPRODUCTION
STUDENTS: Graduate students in the Multimedia, Photography, and Design program, but also open to undergraduate students across campus.
After the shutter is pressed and an image is made, there is another whole process that can help bring the photograph to life. It is within this postproduction phase where students can make sure that the image matches their vision as well as adjust its size, color profile, and ratio. This one credit course is tailored for the workflow and needs of graphic designers working with photography.
Project #1: Photo retouching
This project teaches students how to color correct photos, selectively edit parts of images, remove elements from an image, and also add additional elements without making an image look like it was edited.
Project #2: place project
In this project, students create a photo illustration of a place that’s significant to them, combining a minimum of seven images into one composition. These don’t have to look realistic, but should rather communicate parts of what makes that place special to the designer. Although it sounds simple, this project takes time, as students must collect and select all the images, edit them consistently, select the parts of each image to include, and combine them into one composition.
