Advanced multimedia storytelling
STUDENTS: Military Motion Media (MMM) students as part of the Military Visual Journalism program at Newhouse.
This course looks to explore ways of collecting and combining audio, still images and motion to advance narratives. In the end, the students will develop a greater understanding of the power and importance of multimedia storytelling and improve the needed skills necessary to have an impact the surrounding community and issues that are impacting today’s society.
Project #1: Persuasive Storytelling
This project allowed for students to really pre-plan their shoots by persuading their audience to do something. Leaving it broad allowed for me to get a sense of their skills and visual style.
Project #2: Branding project.
This project is about creating a piece to help explain a current topic or event in the news and then simplifying it with the addition of motion graphics.
Project #3: Campaign design.
This longer form project allowed for more time within the semester to really spend time with and build a rapport with the people whose stories they were telling or to spend more time writing a script to tell a fiction film and push their visual skills.
